Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing services (formerly Jigsaw)

The service includes specialist early intervention for young people with or at risk of developing a serious mental health disorder and treatment services for young people with drug and alcohol and/or high prevalence disorders.

Under the auspice of the wider Barwon Health Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Service, it also forms a central component of the headspace Barwon consortia and is actively involved in service development and innovation to assist in the national campaign to promote early and effective mental health and drug and alcohol interventions for young people.

Programs

Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing clinicians and psychiatrists provided various treatments for young people including; generic case management activities of service linkages and housing supports, family consultation, multi-family support group for young people with psychosis, therapeutic interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) etc.

Clinicians and medical staff are also able to provide secondary consultation to other services and can also provide one-off medical reviews to GPs upon request via a written referral.

Staff

Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing has a multidisciplinary team with clinicians from nursing, psychology, social work, and occupational therapy backgrounds. We have three psychiatrists, two full-time psychiatric registrars, a sexual health specialist nurse and peer workers.

Eligibility

12 – 25 years: Experiencing a severe mental illness or are at risk of developing a severe mental illness.

Barwon Health Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing services are delivered from Youth Central and Youth North at 126 Little Malop Street and Youth South at Newcomb Community Health Centre.
