Barwon Health has a range of acute mental health, alcohol and other drug inpatient services for people needing intense support.
We have emergency and short stay beds in the Mental Health Alcohol & Other Drugs hub in the Emergency Department, as well as inpatient beds across University Hospital Geelong.

If you are admitted to hospital and have other ongoing medical conditions, please be assured that these will be monitored and cared for during your stay.
- You will be given a swipe band to enter your room
- You may be given your own bedroom with a bathroom or you may be sharing
- You can ask a nurse for a towel, soap, toothpaste and toothbrush
- Laundry facilities are available
- Our facilities are smoke-free zones – nicotine support is available.
- Meals are provided
- Group activities may be run, there is an activity room and a sensory room to de-stress
- For safety reasons, there are some things that are not allowed to be brought onto the ward. These can be kept securely in the nurses station and given back to you when you are leaving the unit
- Talk to your doctor about having leave from the unit. This may not always be possible, particularly at the start of your stay
- Ask your nurse if you would like to use a phone
- If you are not sure about anything, just ask!

- Decaffeinated drinks
- Special items such as a favourite pillow, doona, comfort items
* List of medications from your doctor (you may like to bring your empty medication packaging, name of medication etc.)
Please don’t bring expensive items, and be mindful that other patients may have allergies to certain food and pollen.
